Healing, Hope, Charity and Community...

The 1973 Society was formed to honor and engage those working to support the vision of the Sisters of St. Francis who founded St. Mary Medical Center in 1973 as a City of Hope and Healing . An invitation to participate in this group is for those special donors who have demonstrated that the four pillars of the 1973 Society healing, hope, charity, and community are of utmost value to them too.

The 1973 Society enables community members to support St. Marys unique delivery of patient-centered healthcare in a world that has become disconnected from the human spirit and sees patients not as people, but as numbers. St. Mary brings state-of-the-art healthcare to our local community while attracting leading physicians and clinicians from all over the world.

Membership in the 1973 Society is a donors passport to insider experiences designed just for them including facility openings, physician meet & greets, and exclusive receptions to name just a few. Exciting ongoing growth at St. Mary has enabled us to meet the critical needs of thousands of patients. We are committed to remaining on the cutting edge of medical services and need the help of generous people like you.

My Personal Journey
by Gloria Weissbart

In January 2009, I was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer. What started out as my annual mammogram quickly ballooned into my worst nightmare. The staff at the St. Mary Womens Health Center was by my side to guide me through my cancer diagnosis and treatment. The concern, compassion, knowledge and care I received at St. Mary gave me the strength to cope with three surgeries my chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

During this time, I decided to recognize my care givers with a donation, in their names, to the St. Mary Foundation. They were my Guardian Angels. I made donations in the past, but this time it was personal. I didnt think any amount of money could express my gratitude for the concern and care I received at St. Mary. Or make a real difference to anyone else. I was wrong.

Shortly after receiving my gift a member of the St. Mary Foundation office contacted me. I was invited in to talk about my interests and possible opportunities to become involved with the hospital. I learned how financial support from donors, like me, help provide hospital funding for various equipment and expanded facilities. It was a memorable moment when I realized I was part of a larger group of donors that contributed to the Stereotactic Radiosurgery equipment that was recently added to the arsenal of cancer treatment options for patients at St. Mary.

I am passionate about the care St. Mary provides utilizing advanced technologies while focusing on healing the mind, body, and spirit of each patient. I have turned my passion into action by financially supporting the continued growth of St. Mary Medical Center. Ive come to realize that our donations and participation do matter and that together we make a difference. I hope you join me.
